Driving in bad weather conditions is a bad idea. It can lead to major accidents that can cause serious injuries and temporary or permanent disability. In many cases, it can lead to death too. Some major injuries are caused by driving in extreme weather conditions like –  back and neck injuries, broken bones, rib damage, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, lacerations, dental injuries, etc. Severe weather conditions like thunderstorms, hail storms, sand storms, etc. can lead to reduced visibility and you lose control of your vehicle leading to accidents. Some bad weather conditions that cause major accidents are – blizzards, snow, ice, fog, rain, thunderstorms, tornadoes, hail, heavy wind, and cloudiness. However, if you ever face a car accident, you must get in touch with firms like Sullivan & Galleshaw for legal guidance.

You must avoid driving in heavy rain because of the following risks:-

  • Impaired vision: Any adverse weather conditions like heavy rain, thunderstorms, hail storms, blizzards, etc. can cause loss of visibility when driving. Even if you are driving in such a condition try to use defensive driving mode. You can also use other techniques like turning on the hazard lights, driving slowly, activating low-beam headlights, etc. However, if the conditions get even more severe you should consider pulling over to the side of the road.
  • Slippery roads: Heavy rains and thunderstorms are bound to affect the road conditions turning them more slippery. Slippery roads will not give enough tire traction to the car to slow down even if it is at low speed. In many cases, the slippery roads will lead your car to skid when you try to suddenly stop the vehicle leading to accidents. Slippery roads can also lead to aquaplaning or hydroplaning which is a dangerous driving condition and can lead the tires to lose contact with the road leading to loss of traction.
  • Loss of control: Extreme weather conditions cause loss of control for drivers. While driving in such conditions it is important to drive slowly and keep your tires aimed at where you want to go. Use defensive techniques too to stop from losing control.

While planning to go out in bad weather, you must better prepare yourself to deal with the situation to avoid potential accidents. Decreased visibility and loss of ability to handle the vehicle in such extreme weather conditions lead to severe collisions. You must be extra cautious and use defensive driving techniques to control your car in bad weather like heavy rain.
